The Bitterroot River is a mecca for fly fishermen, kayakers, floaters, inner tubers, swimmers, and bird watchers. Dunrovin Ranch has over ½ mile of Bitterroot River access with some of the very best fishing, a great spring fed swimming hole, and sandy beaches. Wildlife of all kinds -  mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians – use the Bitterroot River and its associated riparian wetlands as a virtual highway for passing through the valley. World famous for its clear, cold water and native trout, the Bitterroot River offers superb fishing to experts and novices alike, from early March through November.

Dunrovin Ranch guests merely need to purchase a Montana State fishing license, step out their door, take their rods and flies to the river’s bank, and begin fishing. There are a number of great fishing holes accessible from Dunrovin and adjacent public land. Canoe rentals are also available to Dunrovin Ranch guests for unguided fishing.

Dunrovin Ranch is proud to partner with local outfitter Grizzly Hackle to offer a variety of fishing packages. The Grizzly Hackle has a dedicated crew that has introduced thousands of anglers - beginners and experts alike - to the trout of western Montana. With one of the finest guide staffs along with a full service fly shop, Grizzly Hackle is here to meet your every need. Hailing from all over, our professional "trout bums" live to get all of our clients into fish. Whether you want to fish all day long or want to learn the finer points of stripping streamers, they love to do it all. Each guide is an accomplished nympher, dry fly fisherman, and oarsman; but more importantly, each has the river and life experience to make a day on the water a rare gem. We are extremely lucky to be located at the junction of four of the greatest trout streams in the lower 48. Within an hour in every direction we have over 150 miles of navigable water just full of wild rainbows, cutthroat, brookies, browns, and cutbows! Unlike a lot of other areas we are blessed with having roughly 85 - 90% of our fishing done with dry flies! Grizzly Hackle offers both full and part day float and wade fishing trips.

Fly fishing float trips are the best way to cover water in western Montana. The size of Missoula area rivers makes float fishing out of drift boats almost essential. Grizzly Hackle usually covers from 7 to 10+ miles on a float trip allowing you the opportunity to cast over as many as 15,000 fish! As a bonus to gaining access to parts of the river that do not grant good foot access, you get to bask in the grandeur that is Montana and take in incredible views while casting to monster trout!

For those looking for a more intimate approach to fly fishing, Grizzly Hackle offers a limited number of wade days a year. They'll take you out to one of Western Montana's smaller streams and stalk trout the old fashioned way.

All trips include snacks, beverages, flies, tippet, and transportation to and from the river. Licenses and leaders, as well as other applicable gear, can be purchased at the Grizzly Hackle.

For the very adventuresome, Dunrovin Ranch offers a full moon float on the three nights of the month closest to the full moon.
